Weather was a big factor at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex
on Saturday evening, as afternoon rain and threatening skies made
completing the scheduled program a challenge. However, most of the
slated card was in the record books, as the seventh of nine main
events was on the track when a storm blew in, knocking power out
of the back chute lights and shortly thereafter, dropping
significant rainfall onto the track, forcing an early curtailment
to the program.
Of the events that were completed, Darin Spalti of West Seneca, NY
took the win in the visiting Cup Lites Series race, Alan Fisher of
West Valley, NY made it 2-for-2 in the LAMOT Late Model main,
Justin Mapes earned a first career victory in the visiting
Casey’s TQ Midget Series event, and Mark Hoch of West Seneca, NY
notched his first Carquest Charger victory. Earning second wins of
the year were Brandon Hirsch of Orchard Park, NY in the Native
Pride Pro Four feature, Ashley Kirchberger of Buffalo, NY in the
Thiel Motorsports Queen Bee main, and Jason Eck of West Seneca, NY
in the Alliance Auto Recycling Figure 8 Car race.
The NASCAR Sunoco SST Pro Modifieds and Thiel Motorpsorts Hornets
will have their events made up later in the season.
The Cup Lites were on the 17th of 30 scheduled laps when the back
chute lights went dark, forcing a caution flag, and when the rains
hit shortly thereafter, the race was called complete. Darin Spalti
raced his Mantelli Trailer Sales machine by Dan Tybor for the top
slot on lap 6, and was holding off a persistently challenging
Bobby Holmes at the point the race was halted. Jeff Moorehouse
placed third in the final rundown.
In the 15 lap LAMOT Late Model main, Alan Fisher worked his Plum
Crazy Racing/Southern Tier Auto Center Monte Carlo by Nick Crassi
on the 2nd circuit, then held off race long challenges from T.J.
Johnson and Mike Ticco for the win.
Justin Mapes took his Gordy Steffen owned TQ Midget by Danny
Lawrence on lap 6 of the 20-lap Casey’s TQ Midget Series main,
and opened up a nice sized lead cushion, holding a 10 car length
margin of victory at the checkers. Bobby Holmes added another
second place finish to his tally for the evening, with Lawrence
edging Vince Christiano, Jr. at the stripe for third.
Mark Hoch and Rob Miszczak battled side-by-side for a good portion
of the 30-lap Cartquest Charger main, before Hoch was able to open
up a lead in the SPS Temporaries ride by lap 22. However,
defending divisional champ Jim Loffredo came through the pack to
rapidly close on Hoch in the late going, but Hoch had enough of a
lead to hold a two-car length margin over Loffredo at the finish.
Miszczak crossed the line in third.
Brandon Hirsch raced his Thiel Motorsports Nissan by Josh Hathaway
on a lap five re-start, then rolled away for the win in the 25-lap
Native Pride Pro Four main. Jason Eck broke free of the pack
mid-race, but was unable to close on Hirsch, settling for second,
while Hathaway held on for third.
Ashley Kirchberger moved her Thiel Motorsports/DeRonde Tire Sales
Honda by Noreen Koningisor on lap four, then had little trouble in
recording her 2nd 2008 win in the 15-lap Thiel Motorsports Queen
Bees event. Mae Urban placed a distant second, with Elaine Pimpo
taking third.
Jason Eck led all 12 laps of the Alliance Auto Recycling Figure 8
Car main, holding a substantial margin of victory over runner-up
Jason Adams in the non-points event.
Racing will continue at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex on
Saturday, June 28th with the rain-delayed Veteran Race to the Flag
(from July 14th) leading off the program at 5:15 PM, then a
program of NASCAR Sunoco SST Pro Modifieds, LAMOT Late Models,
Carquest Chargers, Native Pride Pro Fours, INEX Legends, Thiel
Motorpsorts Hornets, and Alliance Auto Recycling Figure 8 Cars
getting underway at 7:15. Rain checks for those in attendance at
the June 21st show will be honored ONLY at the June 28th program.
