In what has become an unfortunate Saturday ritual this season, fans
were scattering as the rains began to fall during the August 2nd
racing program at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex. After two
events were completed, Mother Nature forced the cancellation of the
rest of the slated program. This marks the seventh event this season
at Holland which has been affected by the weather. Holland rain
checks from August 2nd will be honored for the August 9th racing
program.
In the racing that was completed, a pair of defending divisional
champs each captured their third wins of the season. Ashley
Kirchberger of Buffalo, NY took advantage of a re-start with three
laps remaining to race by Mae Urban for the lead and the win in the
15 lap Thiel Motorsports Queen Bees go, while Jason Eck of Buffalo
came back from an early race incident to squeeze by Bill Lutz on the
final lap of the 12 lap Alliance Auto Recycling Figure 8 Car event.
Scheduled racing for the NASCAR Sunoco SST Pro Modifieds, LAMOT Late
Models, Carquest Chargers, Native Pride Pro Fours, Thiel Motorsports
Hornets, and the Cup Lites Series fell victim to the rain.
As a prelude to the regular racing program, a pair of previously
postponed special events managed to get completed. Jim Suttell of
East Aurora, NY took the win in the Veterans Race to the Flag,
postponed from June 14th, while Kevin Steffan from the Pembroke, NY
Central School District captured the victory in the Teacher Feature
race, postponed from May 31st. In each event, pre-registered
veterans and teachers took to the oval in Speedway provided
4-cylinder strictly stock racers. Funds raised from the Veterans
Race to the Flag will benefit the “Wounded Warriors” Fund, while
the Teacher Feature funds will benefit special projects at the home
school districts of the competing teachers.
