Hines Becomes First Three Peat Winner at Lake Erie Speedway! |

(North East, PA-June 14, 2008) “The sun always shines at Lake Erie Speedway!” With rain closing many race tracks on Saturday night, Lake Erie Speedway opened its gates to a night of great racing. More than 2,500 fans witnessed the great racing action in all divisions including the Plyler Overhead Door Late Models, Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks, Jenson Target Collision Compacts, Career Concepts Legends, Boyer RV Bandoleros, and Dodge Sportmods. Lake Erie Speedway also held their annual Father’s Day celebration with a riding lawnmower give away courtesy Pennock’s Sales & Service for the Fox 66 “Father’s Day 500”. At intermission, nine fathers went on the track for a chance to win the riding lawnmower by taking part in a tricycle race. With Chick-fil-A’s charismatic cow helping cheer on the contestants, one winner prevailed and took home the prize. Racing started with the Career Concepts Legends, with number 21 Patrick Lyden taking the pole. Lyden led the first twenty one laps with the yellow flag coming out twice for cautions. The first caution resulted from number 70 Shawn McArdle, and number 4 Brett Sager off turn three on lap twelve. Taking the led from Lyden was number 8 Justin Hines, who is now a three time winner at Lake Erie Speedway. Taking the pole for the Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks was number 01 Leslie Bohrer from Harborcreek, PA. Bohrer only led the first lap before being passed by number 15 Charles Houser who led four laps before being passed by number 71 Eric Hadley. With no cautions, Hadley led the remainder of the race finishing first, with number 1 Terry Akerly second, and number 83 Russ Conti finishing third. The Boyer RV Center Bandoleros almost had a caution free race, but had a yellow flag come out on lap three for a collision between number 9 Carl Vilardo IV and number 69 Brody Wood off turn four. Both cars were okay and were able to finish the race. Number 42 Nathan Rodgers who took the lead on lap four finished first which resulted in his second straight win at Lake Erie Speedway. Leading the first three laps was number 21 Alexis Wilson who finished third, and number 3 Zac Carter was able to finish second. The new division to Lake Erie Speedway, the Dodge Sportmods, had their first one caution race. With number 11 Casey Swabik taking the pole and managed to lead the first two laps. Taking the lead from him was number 1 Terry Akerly who came all the way from eighth place. While the lead was taken from Akerly on lap twelve by number 32 Eric McCray, Akerly finished second. Two time winner number 21 Scott Bayle had some trouble in the first few laps and was penalized a lap, with some tough racing was able to finish eleventh. Finishing third for the Dodge Sportmods was number 43 Lonnie Waldron from Stockton, NY. Jensens Target Collision Compacts led a caution free race. With number 55 Ray Houser taking the pole, he was unable to lead a single lap with number 17m Rich Miller coming from second place and taking first. After leading two laps, Miller lost his first place position to number 7 Angela McAvoy. She was able to hold her first place position till lap nine when number 95 Jonathan Breads from Westfield, PA made his way up from ninth place. Breads won the race, with McAvoy finishing second, and number 14 Carter Mook finishing third. The final division to race was the Plyler Overhead Door Lake Models. With five cautions in the race resulting from spin outs from numbers 65 George Skora III, number 52 Joe Bizzaro, number 88 Jesse Pontello, and number 86 John Gallagher. Taking the pole and the first four laps was number 26 Bryan Salisbury, who lost his lead to number 69 Josh John on lap five. John led the majority of the race but was passed by number 32 Glenn Gault Jr. on lap 37 who went on to win his first race of 2008. John finished second and number 3 Jeff Brown finished third. The end of the night finished with a fireworks show sponsored by Aarons. Next week is Lake Erie Speedway’s sixth birthday.
