PERRY, NY… Comfortable racing weather welcomed fans to Wyoming County International Speedway (WCIS) in Perry, NY for the last regular Friday night race night of the 2010 campaign. In an event that was rained out just three weeks ago, the race teams were eager to get onto the speedway, especially the Super Stocks who were the headliners for the night as they participated in a 50 lap feature event. Heat winner Austyn Fugle and Jay Canonico led the field for the 50 lap event for the Super Stocks and it was Jay Canonico leading the first go around on the 1/3rd mile Bullring. The first yellow flag of the event happened with just three laps in as Ben Campbell slowed his 72 machine down on the front stretch due to a flat right front tire. Canonico would lead the way off of the restart and then Fugle would retake the lead away from Canonico and not look back. There was a great battle behind the leader as Steve Vinyard, Jason Dieter and current point’s leader Phil Alhart Jr. were battling for the runner up spot. The battle would then end just past the halfway mark as Tom Bellanca Jr slowed on the back stretch. The following restart saw Fugle up front at the head of the class and then a third yellow would come out on lap 29 as Pete Pieczynski slowed on the front stretch. Fugle would continue to lead but both Jason Dieter and Phil Alhart Jr was on the move trying anything in their power to get around the young Livonia, NY pilot. A late race caution set up a green white checkered finish and that was key for Alhart Jr. as he went around Dieter for second and then got enough bite off of turn four to pick up the checkered by a bumper cover over Fugle and Dieter. Ed Schueler and Lexi Wilson led the mighty SST Modifieds for the start of their 35 lap feature event and it was Schueler out to the early advantage. Schueler led for a few laps in his Autism Awareness special and look very strong up front leading the way until Andy J made his move to the front. Just before a third of the race was completed, Andy J would take over the top spot from Schueler heading into turns one and two.  Jankowiak would pull away from the rest of the field and put some of the cars at the rear of the field a lap down. Defending track champion John Barber tried everything in his power to get close to the Jankowiak car but was unsuccessful at getting around the current points leader. Ed Schueler and Lexi Wilson came together in turns three and four on the final circuit, causing both their nights to end just before the checkered flag dropped on a race that went green to checker. Teammates Eric Haistreiter and Bob Bogner led the way to the start of the 4 Cylinder feature event and it was the Haistreiter getting out to the early advantage. A lap three spin by Troy Collings slowed the field down for the first yellow of the night. Just after the restart, the current point’s leader Tommy Catalano would make his move to the front. The Rocket would pass Haistreiter for second and then shortly after would pass Bob Bogner for the top spot. Tommy would hold off all competitors including defending speedway Champion Brian Johnson for another victory this season for the young competitor from Ontario, NY. Johnson would finish second and Bogner would round out the top three. Just a note that Kevin Grom was the winner of the 4 cylinder heat event on August 21st, not Charles Buchanan. Kennedy White picked up her second victory of the season in the Mini Cups after leading most of the event. She was able to hang on to the win by the smallest of margins over Robbie Micoli in the eight lap match race for the Mini Cups. In the Junkyard Soccer Crash and Smash Event, it was the team made up of Brian Johnson, Chris Wolcott and Kevin Grom that defeated the Majchrzak family team by the score of 3-0 with Wolcott getting two of the goals for the 4 Cylinder Drivers. WCIS will be back in action on Sunday September 5th as it’s the annual Labor Day 100 for the SST Modifieds. The Super Stocks, 4 Cylinder Stocks and the Casey’s TQ Midgets will also be on the racing card. Pit gates open at 3 pm, with the front gates opening a short time later and the green flag will drop at 6:00 pm sharp. For more information, check out www.wyomingcountyinternationalspeedway.com or on Facebook by searching Wyoming International Speedway.
