PERRY, NY...A great crowd was on hand for Elitsac Lumber Night at Wyoming County International Speedway as the Race of the Champions Modified Tour was on hand for their make up tour stop after being rained out the first time around earlier this season. The Casey's TQ Midget Series was also on hand with the WCIS regular Friday night racing action with the SST Modifieds, Super Stocks and 4 Cylinders saw action on the 1/3rd mile Bullring.

Third generation driver Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, NY took top honors after winning the Race of Champions Modified Tour stop at the historic Perry, NY third mile oval. Second generation driver and defending race winner Matt Hirschman finished second and Earl Paules rounded out the top three at races end. Rudolph would make his winning move on lap 34 as he passed Ricky Kluth for the lead and held on for the win. Both Rudolph and Hirschman were the only two cars that did not take on new tires past the halfway mark of the event. Rudolph would pick up another win at a track that has been nice to me over the years. This win marked Erick's first ROC triumph of the 2010 season. Matt Hirschman would finish in the runner up spot and Earl Paules, who led most of the first third of the race, would round out the top three. A full release of the ROC event at WCIS can be found elsewhere in this weeks edition of the Gater Racing News.

Jonathan Reid and Andy Jankowiak led the field of Casey's TQ Midgets to the green flag and it was Jankowiak getting the advantage. Just before the halfway mark, Dave Wollaber made his way to the front of the field and he passed his team Vinnie teammate Jankowiak and pulled away from the rest of the field. Then just past halfway, Bobby Holmes made his appearance known as Holmes made his way up to the top three and was going after Jankowiak and Wollaber but ran out of time as Dave Wollaber picked up the feature win to make Team Vinnie finish 1-2-3 with Andy J in second and Bobby Holmes in third.

Lexi Wilson and Ed Schueler led the SST Modifieds to the start of their 35 lap feature and it was Schueler out to the early advantage. Then shortly after the first lap, Andy Jankowiak took over the top spot after his fifth starting spot. Once out front, Andy J quickly pulled away from the field and was quickly putting the rear of the field a lap down. There was a great battle for fourth between Wilson and former SST series champion Joe Evans and even that battle didn't stop the high flying Jankowiak as Andy J put both of them a lap down before it was all said and done. Wilson had problems coming off of turn four on the final lap to end her bid of a top five finish.  Andy J was on cruise control and ended up lapping the entire field with the exception of the top three on his way to his seventh win on the season at the Bullring in his Rear End Specialties, Jim and Bob's Service entry. Jim Ling would have a great race to finish second and Ed Schueler would cross the line in a career best third place finish. Just two side notes, the race was caution free and Mike Shaughnessy will be the driver of the week for the week of August 20th. With the win for Jankowiak, Andy J will now be guaranteed a starting spot in the feature event for the ROC Sportsman 100 at the Oswego Speedway for the 60th Race of Champions Weekend in September.

The Super Stocks always put on a show at WCIS and this week was no exception. Phil Alhart Jr and Jeremy Gray would be up front for most of the 25 lap affair with Mike Chenaille and Cassie Logsdon competing strong for the duration of the race. This race was mostly caution free until Jeremy Gray blew on the back stretch causing the yellow lights to come on. The restart saw Phil Alhart Jr. up front and in complete control of the race and the Alhart Construction 84 entry was on cruise control, picking up his first win in several weeks at the Bullring. Mike Chenaille would finish second and Cassie Logsdon would round out the top three.

Charles Buchanan and Dakota Packman led the field for the start of the 4 cylinder event and it was the Buchanan out to the early lead. The caution-free event saw the competitors spread out all over the speedway and the car on the move was Tommy Catalano. The points leader started towards the rear of the field in the 20 lap feature go and quickly got up to the runner up spot just before the halfway mark but he couldn't do anything for Buchanan as Charles would pick up his third win on the season. Catalano would finish second and Kevin Grom would round out the top three. Charles Buchanan with the win is now qualified for a guaranteed starting spot for the Mini Stock feature at ROC Weekend in Oswego in September.

Next week at the Bullring will be the annual 5000 Penny Pickup sponsored by the Bank of Castile. The SST Modifieds, Super Stocks and 4 Cylinder Stocks are also on the racing card. Pit gates open at 5 pm along with the front gates and the green flag will drop at 7:30 pm sharp.  For more information, check out www.wyomingcountyinternationalspeedway.com or on Facebook by searching Wyoming International Speedway.
