(North East, PA – Saturday June 5, 2010) After an Opening Night that brought in more than 6,200 people, the fans came out again for a special night of racing. Tonight’s race had an attendance of 5,563 which included All Six Divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series as well as the Lucas Oil Can Am Midget Series and Casey’s Truck Salvage TQ Midgets.

In the first race of the night, fifteen laps of the Jensens Target Collision Compacts Feature, #51 Jamie Hebner of Fredonia, NY ran away with his second straight win at Lake Erie Speedway this season. Hebner dominated the race after he moved from second to first place at lap four. The battle for second place was close between #95 Jonathan Breads of Westfield, NY and #34 Brandon Huffman of Corry, PA. In the end, Breads went home with second place, while Huffman took third. #28 Jay Johnson of Fairview, PA finished the Compacts race in fourth.

The Bandoleros were second to race tonight and the fans at Lake Erie Speedway saw #26 Anthony Riforgiato from Portland, NY get his second consecutive win this season. Riforgiato was leading after the first lap and never fell behind. At lap four, there was plenty of distance between Riforgiato and the rest of the pack. While #69 Brody Wood of Corry, PA was an easy shoo-in for second place, third place was up for grabs. #33 Melissa Brockman of Eden, NY, #81 Michael Walker of McKeesport, PA and #97 Darrin Waldron of Stockton, NY fought for third for the entire race. In the end, Brockman took third, Walker took fourth, and Waldron took fifth respectively.

The Street Stock Feature was a competition from beginning to end. Although #1 Jeff Campbell of Harborcreek, PA led for the last twenty laps of the race, #21 Lexi Wilson of Hamburg, NY was on his tail for every lap. Wilson crept ahead around the turn at lap twenty-three, but Campbell never let go of his lead. #21x Dave Wilson also of Hamburg, NY and father to Lexi, finished in third and #51 Ryan Corso of Atlanta, NY finished the Street Stock Feature in fourth.

The fourth race of the night featured the Career Concepts Legends. The twenty-five lap race was never a dull one. #39 Jeremy Haudricourt of Bliss, NY and #25 Steve Sunday of Dewittville, NY competed for the first place spot for many laps of the race. In the end, Haudricourt won the Legends Feature and Sunday finished in second. #21 Patrick Lyden of Erie,PA, who was last week’s Legends winner, finished in third and #38 Daniel Weaver of Oil City, PA finished the race in fourth place.

The Modifieds Feature race saw #19 Dwayne VanTassel of Knox, PA speed away with his first victory at Lake Erie Speedway. After moving into the front spot at lap three, VanTassel never lost his lead. #77 Dave McAvoy of Fredonia, NY was in second place but after receiving a black flag, McAvoy was disqualified from the race. #17jr James-Paul Weisser of Pittsburgh, PA finished in second after being third for most of the race.  #32 Eric McCray of Corry, PA finished the race in third and #24 Randy Culver, racing in his hometown of North East, PA completed the Modifieds race in fourth place.

The Plyler Overhead Door Late Models Feature saw many caution flags that paused the race and gave several riders a chance to take over first place.  In the end, #56 Rich Skora of Eden, NY edged out #32 Glenn Gault Jr. of Hubbard, OH for the top spot. Third place belonged to #55 Matt Barndt of Bethlehem, PA and #04 Bret Guzik of Pottstown, PA owned fourth.

Before the Midget races were set to begin, the crowd stood and cheered to acknowledge the visitors for tonight’s event. Soon after, rain started to fall on the Speedway and the race was paused to see if the rain would be subside. Fortunately, the rain stopped falling for a short time and the Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets raced nine laps, before the race was called.

Next Saturday, June 12th will see all six divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race again. It will also be a Kid’s Club Night at Lake Erie Speedway and our special Scout Night where all scouts and their families can get into the race for only $4! Hope to see you there!
