(North East, PA – Saturday June 5, 2010) After an
Opening Night that brought in more than 6,200 people, the fans came out
again for a special night of racing. Tonight’s race had an attendance
of 5,563 which included All Six Divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All
American Series as well as the Lucas Oil Can Am Midget Series and
Casey’s Truck Salvage TQ Midgets. In the first race of the
night, fifteen laps of the Jensens Target Collision Compacts Feature,
#51 Jamie Hebner of Fredonia, NY ran away with his second straight win
at Lake Erie Speedway this season. Hebner dominated the race after he
moved from second to first place at lap four. The battle for second
place was close between #95 Jonathan Breads of Westfield, NY and #34
Brandon Huffman of Corry, PA. In the end, Breads went home with second
place, while Huffman took third. #28 Jay Johnson of Fairview, PA
finished the Compacts race in fourth. The Bandoleros were second
to race tonight and the fans at Lake Erie Speedway saw #26 Anthony
Riforgiato from Portland, NY get his second consecutive win this season.
Riforgiato was leading after the first lap and never fell behind. At lap
four, there was plenty of distance between Riforgiato and the rest of
the pack. While #69 Brody Wood of Corry, PA was an easy shoo-in for
second place, third place was up for grabs. #33 Melissa Brockman of
Eden, NY, #81 Michael Walker of McKeesport, PA and #97 Darrin Waldron of
Stockton, NY fought for third for the entire race. In the end, Brockman
took third, Walker took fourth, and Waldron took fifth respectively. The Street Stock Feature
was a competition from beginning to end. Although #1 Jeff Campbell of
Harborcreek, PA led for the last twenty laps of the race, #21 Lexi
Wilson of Hamburg, NY was on his tail for every lap. Wilson crept ahead
around the turn at lap twenty-three, but Campbell never let go of his
lead. #21x Dave Wilson also of Hamburg, NY and father to Lexi, finished
in third and #51 Ryan Corso of Atlanta, NY finished the Street Stock
Feature in fourth. The fourth race of the
night featured the Career Concepts Legends. The twenty-five lap race was
never a dull one. #39 Jeremy Haudricourt of Bliss, NY and #25 Steve
Sunday of Dewittville, NY competed for the first place spot for many
laps of the race. In the end, Haudricourt won the Legends Feature and
Sunday finished in second. #21 Patrick Lyden of Erie,PA, who was last
week’s Legends winner, finished in third and #38 Daniel Weaver of Oil
City, PA finished the race in fourth place. The Modifieds Feature race
saw #19 Dwayne VanTassel of Knox, PA speed away with his first victory
at Lake Erie Speedway. After moving into the front spot at lap three,
VanTassel never lost his lead. #77 Dave McAvoy of Fredonia, NY was in
second place but after receiving a black flag, McAvoy was disqualified
from the race. #17jr James-Paul Weisser of Pittsburgh, PA finished in
second after being third for most of the race.
#32 Eric McCray of Corry, PA finished the race in third and #24
Randy Culver, racing in his hometown of North East, PA completed the
Modifieds race in fourth place. The Plyler Overhead Door
Late Models Feature saw many caution flags that paused the race and gave
several riders a chance to take over first place.
In the end, #56 Rich Skora of Eden, NY edged out #32 Glenn Gault
Jr. of Hubbard, OH for the top spot. Third place belonged to #55 Matt
Barndt of Bethlehem, PA and #04 Bret Guzik of Pottstown, PA owned
fourth. Before the Midget races
were set to begin, the crowd stood and cheered to acknowledge the
visitors for tonight’s event. Soon after, rain started to fall on the
Speedway and the race was paused to see if the rain would be subside.
Fortunately, the rain stopped falling for a short time and the Lucas Oil
Can Am Midgets raced nine laps, before the race was called. Next Saturday, June 12th
will see all six divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race
again. It will also be a Kid’s Club Night at Lake Erie Speedway and
our special Scout Night where all scouts and their families can get into
