Lake Erie Speedway

(North East, PA – Saturday, June 12, 2010) A humid and sunny Saturday was the stage for all six Lake Erie Speedway Racing Divisions to race for the third week in a row at Lake Erie Speedway. Tonight also featured an extended thirty five lap race for the Street Stocks.

After winning the Jensens Target Collision Compacts Feature two consecutive weeks, #51 Jamie Hebner of Fredonia, NY fell to second place as #34b Brandon Huffman from Corry, PA took first place in the fifteen lap race. At lap six, Huffman was able to steal the lead from Hebner. The two cars battled until the end, but Huffman never let go of his lead. Third place belonged to #14 Jim Tobin of Erie, PA and fourth place went to #95 Jonathan Breads from Westfield, NY.

The Bandoleros Feature is seeing a familiar face in Victory Lane as #26 Anthony Riforgiato of Portland, NY won the race for the third straight week. The rest of the pack was no competition for Riforgiato as he led from the very beginning. Second place was up for grabs between #81 Michael Walker of McKeesport, PA and #69 Brody Wood of Corry, PA. While Wood was ahead for five laps, Walker edged him out at lap six for the second place spot. #33 Melissa Brockman of Eden, NY finished in fourth and #23 Devon Moore of Corry, PA placed fifth.

Before the third race of the night, the Career Concepts Legends took a moment to rev their engines simultaneously to get the fans ready and excited for the event. Immediately after, #25 Steve Sunday of Dewittville, NY took off from the group. After trailing in second, #21x Brandon Huff of East Palestine, OH took the lead from Sunday at lap seven. Shortly after, #39 Jeremy Haudricourt of Bliss, NY sped up to battle Huff. Following a caution flag, Haudricourt was able to pull ahead to gain first place and finished there to get his second Legends Feature win in a row this season. Huff finished the race in second, #98 Brett Coon of Elma, NY finished in third, #38w Daniel Weaver of Oil City finished in fourth and the race’s early leader, Sunday, finished the race in fifth place respectively.

The third race of the night was the Modifieds Feature in a twenty five lap race. Following a caution flag at lap three, #17jr James-Paul Weisser of Pittsburgh, PA swiftly sped ahead of #77 Dave McAvoy of Fredonia, NY who had the lead up until the caution. At lap fifteen though, six cars were involved in a crash, which prompted another yellow flag to be waved. Unfortunately during that caution, Weisser’s car was sent off with complications. With Weisser out of the race, the rest of the field had a chance for first place. The cautions didn’t seem to affect McAvoy, as he took off from the rest of the drivers immediately. Although #9 Larry Occhibone  of North East, PA trailed by only feet, he wasn’t able to take the lead from McAvoy who finished the race in first. Occhibone finished the race in second, last week’s winner #19 Dwayne VanTassel of Knox, PA placed third and #14 Carter Mook of Fairview, PA was the Modifieds fourth place finisher.

In tonight’s special event, the Street Stocks raced ten more laps than usual in a thirty five lap race. The Street Stocks didn’t disappoint during their extended race, delivering an intense race from start to finish. After a crash at lap nineteen, #21 Lexi Wilson of Hamburg, NY took the lead from #51 Ryan Corso of Atlanta, NY and kept it to win her first race at Lake Erie Speedway. Lexi’s father, #21x Dave Wilson finished in second. Following another caution at lap twenty-one, the Wilson’s sped away from the rest of the pack and were able to finish the race in the top two spots. Third place went to Corso, while fourth place was #71 Rich Miller of Sinclairville, NY.

In the sixth and final race of the night, the Speedway saw the 2009 Late Model Champion and the current 2010 points leader #9 Will Thomas take home a victory tonight in the Plyler Overhead Door Late Models Feature. Thomas took the lead at lap sixteen after a caution and was able to hold on until the end of the forty lap race. #24 Dave Rigan of Williamsville, NY was in contention for first for most of the race until his car went out of control at lap thirty-six and he was forced off the track. Second place went to #65 George Skora III of Eden, NY and the third place finisher was #56 Rich Skora, also of Eden.

Next Saturday, June 19th, will be Kwik Fill Night at the Races and the Bandoleros will be featured in a twenty lap Regional Qualifier; as well as the five other divisions. Hope to see you at the Speedway!
