With the Super Stocks on hand for a special feature engagement and some of the Street Stocks pulling double duty, the Able Agency Street Stocks were the first ones to take to the track for their feature event. With the track handicapping in place, a number of rookies led the pack to the green flag for a special 50 lap feature. Rookie Dana Fogle jumped into the lead on the start and took fellow rookies Kevin Tarbox and Matt Druar with him. Fogle looked strong as he led the field, but Druar eventually had the better car and passed him on lap 7 to take the lead. Behind the leaders, a mad dash had ensued for positions fifth on back as points leaders Mike Nash, Kevin Mendel, Kris Hamman, and Nate Straus ran side by side and bumper to bumper. Up front, Druar had company as John Hewson, who had started tenth, had quietly worked his way into second spot. The battle for the lead was on as Hewson looked high and low for a way around Druar. Hewson ultimately prevailed, taking the lead on lap 15. By the halfway point of the feature Hewson had built a comfortable lead over Druar, Tarbox, Hamman, and Straus. However a caution on lap 26, brought the field to Hewson’s bumper. Hewson retained control of the lead, but behind him it was anyone’s game. Hamman made the move for third, diving under Tarbox and taking Straus and Mendel with him at lap 30. Straus was a man on a mission and began a fierce battle with Hamman for the third spot. The hard racing resulted in Hamman spinning out of turn four and bringing out the yellow flag on lap 37. The single file restart planted Druar, Straus, Mendel, Tarbox, and Nash right behind Hewson. The leader however, held his spot. With just nine laps remaining, Straus made his move to the inside of Druar for second spot. Diving low and clearing Druar, Straus set off for the leader. With just five laps left on the lap counter, Straus tried to reach Hewson, but had used up what he had battling to the front. Hewson crossed the finish line first, taking his second win of the 2010 season. The
¼ mile DTRP inner oval was the site of the next feature event as the 4
Cylinders took to the asphalt for their 20 lap feature.
The division is full of young talented drivers who are eager to
reach The Super Stocks were on hand for a special racing engagement and following qualifying, the field was set heads up with heat winner Jay Mudra starting on the pole. Mike Scott started to his outside and Jay Canonico, Phil Alhart, and Joe Mancuso rounded out the top five starters. The race ran clean and green and it served leader Mudra well as he managed to take off, taking Scott with him, and leaving the rest of the field behind. Further back it was a heated battle for third as Canonico, Alhart, Kris Hillegeer each looked for a way around the other. By the halfway point of the feature, Mudra and Scott were a considerable distance ahead of the rest of the field. The battle for third gained another entry as Joe Mancuso joined the fray but no one was able to get by Canonico for the third spot. Up front Scott mounted a few challenges to the leader, but was unable to find a way around Mudra. Taking the checkered flag and a guaranteed starting spot at the Race of Champions event in September, was former DTRP track champion Jay Mudra. The final event of the night was the 35 lap Sportsman feature. Sherri Hogan and Frank Batista Jr. led the field to the green flag and it was a mad scramble at the start for position throughout the rest of the field. On lap three Russ Gian displaced Hogan from the top spot while McGrath grabbed second, shuffling Hogan back to third. Coming up through the field however were teammates Sege Fidanza and Billy Burd, who had started seventh and eighth respectively. McGrath went outside of Gian on lap seven to take the lead, but his reign up front would be short lived as Fidanza dove under McGrath just one lap later and took control of the race. Fidanza set off on the track and soon had a considerable distance built between himself and second place McGrath. On lap twenty, Burd began challenging McGrath for second and three laps later made the pass stick, taking the second running spot on the track. A late race yellow on lap 26 erased the huge lead Fidanza had built up on the field and instead put Burd, Batista, Ed Weber, and Mark Pennell on his tail for the single file restart. With just five laps left, Burd made the move for the lead, diving low under Fidanza. The two raced side by side for over a lap, with Burd finally clearing and taking the lead. Burd crossed the finish line first and was initially awarded the win. However, no win is ever official without a trip to technical inspection. After not participating in a mandatory part of the inspection, both Burd and Fidanza were disqualified. With the top two cars dq’ed, the win was awarded to Ed Weber, who originally crossed the finish line in the third position. Weber picked up his first career Sportsman feature win. The
