With
the big Independence Weekend race as the next item on the 2009 racing
schedule at the Oswego Speedway, these last two weeks of June are a
perfect time to do some maintenance to the racing surface. During this
rare scheduled two week break in the season, several concrete patches
are being removed and replaced by J & S Paving Company. The
break in the season at The
Oswego Speedway opened as a dirt track in August of 1951, but by opening
day 1952 it was paved. It was resurfaced in 1956 then expanded from
3/8’s of a mile to its current configuration of 5/8’s of a mile
before the start of the 1961 season. The track was targeted to be
expanded one last time in the 1960’s and have the first and second
turns match those of the old horse racing track which sat on the site.
However, land could not be purchased on the west end of the speedway and
re-shaping the track for the third time did not happen. The final
complete re-paving of the surface occurred during the 1970 racing season
but no weeks were lost because of it. J
& S Paving completed repair work to the Oswego Speedway paved
parking lot just before the start of the 2009 season. Now they take
their paving work right to the racing surface just in time for two big
back-to-back racing weekends at
