EMERLING, HATHAWAY, S. MISZCZAK
EARN FIRST CAREER HOLLAND WINS;
JOHNSON, HOCH, BROWN SCORE REPEAT VISITS

8/23/09

NASCAR Raginwolf.com SST Pro Modified rookie driver Patrick Emerling of
Boston, NY made it look easy in capturing his first career open-wheeled
feature victory at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex on Saturday
evening.    Two other racers also scored first career wins, as Josh
Hathaway of Holland earned the victory in the Pro Four main, while
Sylvia Miszczak of Holland sped to the Thiel Motorsports Queen Bee honors.

In other action, T.J. Johnson of South Wales, NY took win number two in
the Late Models of Tomorrow main, Mark Hoch of West Seneca, NY notched
his fourth of the year in the Charger feature, Eric Brown of Holland
made it four straight in the Thiel Motorsports 4-cylinder Hornet main,
and Mike Eckam was declared the winner in a truncated M&M U-Pull-It
Figure 8 Car race.

Only a single yellow flag slowed the 40 lap NASCAR Ragingwolf.com SST
Pro Modified go, for a Jeff Price spin after just a single lap was in
the books.  On the ensuing restart, Emerling motored his Emerling
Dealerships/Gauthier Blacktopping/Gow School Dayton chassis around Don
King for the top slot, and took advantage of 39 straight laps of green
flag racing to simply drive away from the field.  Patrick lapped up
through ninth place and held a full straightaway advantage at the
checkers.  Mike Fiebelkorn, Jr. broke free from the field into second
place at the mid-way point, but was unable to make up any ground on
Emerling over the second half of the race.  Neil Hopkins and Amy
Catalano had a good tussle for third place over the final 10 laps, with
Hopkins prevailing ahead of Catalano and a fast closing Justin Shepker.

A five car first lap scramble jumbled the field in the Late Models of
Tomorrow main, but only one car was unable to continue- the remaining
laps were caution-free.  On the restart, T.J. Johnson was able to power
his Trank Real Estate Monte Carlo by Scott Wylie for the lead, then
survived a mid-race battle with Dave Whittaker, who was looking for a
third straight win.  After Whittaker brushed the front chute wall,
Johnson was able to pull away late for the victory in the 30 lap event.
It was noted in victory lane that the tires that carried Johnson to
the win dated back to the 2008 season.  Whittaker nursed his Ford home
in second, while Eldon King III made a late run to grab third.

Mark Hoch sliced through the Charger field from his tenth starting spot
in his Art Clark Tribute Malibu to race by Jim Mallaber for the lead at
the lap 15 mark, then held off a stiff challenge by points rival Dave
Krawczyk for the 30 lap victory.  Ted Welshans had a season best third
place run.  The race was marred by two major incidents, as a lap 19
mess involving Rich Carnes, Matt Welshans, and Jim Loffredo severely
damaged both the Welshans and Loffredo machines, then, one lap after
the restart following that wreck, Mike McDonald belted the wall at the
entrance to turn one.  McDonald was mildly shaken up, but otherwise,
all drivers were uninjured.

Josh Hathaway and Jason Eck went side-by-side for most of the final 17
circuits of the 25 lap Pro Four main, with Hathaway edging his Lar’s
Auto Stop/East Aurora NAPA Mustang by Eck on the inside groove under
the parallel flags, then holding off a final turn charge by Eck to
record his first ever win by a scant three feet.  J.D. Roberts bested
an exciting four car struggle to pull away late for third place.

Eric Brown didn’t even bother with the “new” 4-cylinder car this week,
climbing back into “old faithful” to grab the win in the 30 lap Thiel
Motorsports Hornet event.  Brown raced by the balking car of Eric
Marzec for the lead on a lap 7 restart, and weaved his way through lap
cars to record the win.  Marzec managed to get his car functioning
again after his restart troubles, but had to be content with a distant
second place finish, while Matt Druar, in his first Holland visit of
the year, took third.

Sylvia Miszczak took advantage of a lap 10 restart to race around
Samantha Lutz for the lead en route to her win in the 15 lap Thiel
Motorsports Queen Bees race.  Lutz held off a last lap challenge from
Kalie Clementi for the runner-up honors.

The M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 Car main was called complete after just six
of the slated twelve laps were in the books after an over-abundance of
“extra-curricular” activities, with Mike Eckam declared the victor.

In the annual Bar Cup Challenge, Diane Metz of Holland establishment
The Valley, rolled to the Bar Owner’s race win, while in a great
side-by-side race, Shannon of Flipside from Hamburg, NY edged Piper
from Maryan’s of Depew, NY for the Bar Maids race win.  Bar Owners and
Bar Maids form a number of area taverns and restaurants competed on the
oval in Speedway provided 4-cylinder strictly stock racers.

On Saturday, August 29th, the open Late Models return to the Holland
NASCAR Motorsports Complex for the annual Budweiser 100 - top Late
Model racers from across the northeast are expected to converge on
Holland for this special event.   The NASCAR Ragingwolf.com SST Pro
Modifieds, Chargers, Pro Fours, M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 Cars, and Thiel
Motorsports 4-cylinder Hornets, along with a final 2009 visit by the
Casey’s TQ Midget Series, will round out the card.  Pit gates will open
at 3:00, with spectator gates opening at 4:00 and racing getting
underway at 6:00 pm.
