| Mike Fiebelkorn, Jr.of Eden, NY took advantage of a late race restart
to nab the lead and roll on to his first NASCAR Ragingwolf.com SST Pro
Modified win of the season at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex on
Saturday evening. Joe Carbone of West Seneca, NY was the
beneficiary
on a last lap lead duo tangle, as Carbone ended up in victory lane for
the first time in ’09 following the Late Models of Tomorrow main. In other Holland action, Mark Hoch of West Seneca, NY made it two consecutive Carquest Charger wins, Camden Barber of Bliss, NY rolled to his second Holland win of the year in the feature for the visiting Casey’s TQ Midget Series, and J.D. Roberts of Glenwood, NY notched his initial Native Pride Pro Four win of the year. George Quintana of Eden, NY earned his first career victory in the Thiel Motorsports Hornets event, while “Mad Mike” Eckam of East Aurora, NY took the M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 Car race and Samantha Lutz of Buffalo, NY was declared the winner of the Thiel Motorsports Queen Bees run. Neil Hopkins raced by Don King for the lead on a lap 5 restart in the NASCAR Ragingwolf.com SST Pro Modified main, as Mike Fiebelkorn, Jr. and Joe Evans were working their ways through the field. Fiebelkorn motored his Mikey G’s/Fiebelkorn Collision ride by King for second on the 9th lap, and set off in pursuit of Hopkins. Fiebelkorn reeled Hopkins in, but could not get a good run for the lead, until a lap 35 yellow flag changed the scene. On the restart, Fiebelkorn was able to blast to outside of Hopkins to snare the point position, while behind, Evans and King waged a torrid duel for third. Unfortunately, the Evans-King tussle ended violently with a lap 38, turn three tangle in which both slammed the guard rail. Both drivers were uninjured, but the rail was severely damaged, forcing an early end to the slated 40 lap event. The 25 lap Late Model of Tomorrow main had a surprise finish, as Eldon King III and T.J. Johnson made contact on the final turn of the final lap while racing for the win. Johnson spun, while King limped across the line, but was placed to the rear of the lead lap by track officials for his part in the incident. This put the Vic’s Auto Service/Full of Bologna Deli Monte Carlo of Joe Carbone into victory lane, for the veteran driver’s first Holland Late Model win. Carbone, who arrived late at the Complex after attending a nephew’s graduation party, had battled with King and Johnson for the point position over the first half of the race before settling back in what appeared to be a third place run. Nick Crassi an d Dave Whittaker placed second and third in the final rundown. In a rugged Carquest Charger main, Mark Hoch battled first with Dave Krawczyk for second place, then went side-by-side with Rob Miszczak for three circuits late in the race before putting his Art Clark Tribute> Malibu out in front for his second straight win. Miszczak crossed the line in second, but did not survive the post-race tech inspection, resulting in Jim Mallaber and Mike Flaig placing second and third in the official order of finish. Krawczyk came back through the pack after a late race incident to take fourth. Camden Barber put a brand new Jim Fleischman-built engine through its paces in the best way possible, leading all 20 laps of the Casey’s TQ Midget Series main. Barber held a ¾ straight advantage at the checkers> of the caution-free race. Mark Schulz held off teammate Jamie Collard> and Mike Blair in a tight fight for second place. J. D. Roberts drove his Ron’s Collision/Sportstuff Embroidery Nissan to the lead on lap 2 of the 25 lap Native Pride Pro Four go, then held off a late race threat from Nik Welshans for the caution-free win. Josh> Hathaway finished third. George Quintana slipped his Nissan under Eric Brown just three laps for the finish to earn his first career win in the 30 lap Thiel Motorsports 4-cylinder Hornet main. Brown forfeited his apparent second place finish after post-race=2 0tech inspection, putting Jeff Szafraniec in second and Samantha Lutz in third in the final official rundown. Earlier, Kim Marzec had an apparent fourth straight Queen Bees win disappear after post race tech inspection, which resulted in Samantha Lutz getting her first career feature victory behind the wheel of her Elite Custom Collision/Dice Racing Honda. “Mad Mike” Eckam held off a persistent Eric Brown for the win in the 12 lap M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 Car event. Jason Eck raced to a third place finish. News and Notes – Jimmy “Flying Elvis” Gnojek capped off the event by ramp jumping a car through the front of a motorhome, much to the delight of the crowd …. The kids in the house had a day to remember with kids rides to start the night, and pockets full of pennies later on courtesy of the annual Bank of Holland “Gold Rush” penny hunt …. Ryan Hessler had his planned initial outing in a TQ Midget de-railed when the engine blew up in a fireball during afternoon practice …. Advance Auto Electronics provided remote car starters to a number of the evening’s feature winners, while the Friends of Auto Racing (FOAR SCORE) Fan Club made presentations to each of the evening’s victors. The Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex will be dark for the annual 4th of July weekend bye week, but will return to action on Saturday, July 11th,=2 0with Mid-Season championship events for the NASCAR Ragingwolf.com SST Pro Modifieds, Late Models of Tomorrow, Carquest Chargers, and Native Pride Pro Fours on tap – the Charger event will be a 50 lap Race> of Champions qualifier. Also on the program will be the INEX Legends and another visit by the Casey’s TQ Midget Series. The Complex will support Toys for Tots on the 11th, as any fan bringing a new, unwrapped toy will receive a $5 grandstand admission discount. The racing> program will get underway at 7:15 PM.
