| Mother Nature reared her ugly head again on Saturday evening at the
Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex, opening the skies as the Late
Models of Tomorrow were preparing for their main event. The rain
forced the postponement of the Late Model and NASCAR Ragingwolf.com SST
Pro Modified main events to Saturday, June 13th – both divisions will
run double features that evening. In the racing events that did get in before the rain, 2007 Carquest Charger champ Jim Loffredo of Orchard Park, NY scored his first win of the year, Jamie Collard of Princeton, ON captured the Ralph Wissing Memorial race for the visiting Casey’s TQ Midget Series, Kim Marzec notched her second Thiel Motorsports Queen Bees win of the season, and Jason Eck of Buffalo, NY earned a double – taking both the Native Pride Pro Four and M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 Car mains. Jim Mallaber led the early going of the Carquest Charger main before the Miszczak Brothers came calling – Rob Miszczak moved by Mallaber on lap 7, with Greg Miszczak taking second a lap later. The brothers then provided some scintillating side-by-side racing for the lead, with opening night winner Dave Krawczyk moving through the field to claim third on lap 15. Krawczyk quickly reeled in the Miszczaks, but the racing became a bit too tight on the 21st circuit, as Krawczyk and Greg Miszczak made contact – both restarted from the rear of the field. This put Jim Loffredo, who had moved forward from the 13th starting slot, in second on the restart. On the 26th lap, Loffredo was able to> find room under a pushing Rob Miszczak ride to power by and grab the lead, riding on for the win. Rob Miszczak held off a late race charge by Jerry Kosmowski for the runner-up slot. The Casey’s TQ Midget Series had a rough outing, as four yellow flags and a red flag period in the first eight laps slowed the pace in the annual Ralph Wissing Memorial race. The red flag was for a blown engine and oil fire in the mount of rookie Shawn Nye – Nye emerged uninjured. On the restart after the Nye incident, Dean McConnaughey> and Jim Fleischman were racing side-by-side for the lead when contact> between the two in the back chute sent Fleischman into the wall hard, and severely damaged the McConnaughey machine – both drivers emerged OK. When everything finally sorted out, Jamie Collard raced by Englewood Collision teammate Mark Schulz for the top slot on lap 11, then held off a late race run by teammate Vinny Christiano, Jr. to take the lap 20 checkers. Jonathon Reid outsprinted Schulz for the third spot. Jason Eck and Bob Marzec raced side-by-side fo r the Native Pride Pro Four lead for five laps before Eck was able to finally clear Marzec on the 9th lap of the 15 lap go. Eck kept his All Metal Inc./Elma Collision Honda in front of a fast closing Nik Welshans for the win; Marzec held on to place third in the caution free race. Earlier, Eck went wire-to wire to capture the 8 lap M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 car main, over a light field of entries. Kim Marzec needed three laps to get her Marzec Contstruction/Nickel City Shirt Company Dodge by early race leader Sylvia Miszczak, then drove on to a relatively easy victory in the 12 lap Thiel Motorsports Queen Bee main. Samantha Lutz placed second, with Noreen Koningisor taking third in the caution-free race. In the annual Teacher Feature race, Michael Weston for the Arcade Campus of Genesee Community College led the 6-lap finale start-to-finish. Area educators took part in the event as a fund raiser for their schools, competing in Speedway provided strictly stock 4-cylinder racers. Four heat races advanced the winners to the finale. The regular Holland Saturday racing divisions will have the night off on June 6th, as Crash-A-Rama, Round 1 for 2009 will be featured. The full sized school bus Figure 8 race will be the highlight on the metal-mangling slate. Grandstands will open at 4:00 pm, with the first event getting underway at 6:30.
