Lake Erie Speedway

(North East, PA- July 18, 2009)       Saturday night was a Special Event Night at the Races and was sponsored by Rocket 101. After all divisions raced, the Lake Erie 150 presented by the Lake Erie Speedway concluded the night by featuring twenty eight Late Model cars racing 150 laps.

        The first feature race of the night was the Boyer RV Center Bandoleros. Ten Bandoleros started the race with #33 Melissa Brockman leading the pack. During Lap 2, #21 Alexis Wilson took the lead with Brockman and #26 Anthony Riforgiato battling for second position. The first caution flag was thrown during Lap 6 when #69 Brody Wood spun out and had to restart in last position. #1 Brandon DeBrakeleer moved into second position during Lap 7 and stayed on Wilsons’ bumper for the remainder of the race. Wilson was able to hold her position to come in 1st place, followed by DeBrakeleer, Riforgiato, #81 Michael Walker, and Brockman.

        The next race was the Jensens Target Collision Compacts. #17m Rich Miller started the race with a lengthy lead, followed by #98 Chris McQuiston. During Lap 7, #95 Jonathan Breads took second position and passed Miller during Lap 14. #96 Greg Irish and #33 David Thompson were lapped during Lap 10 by the leaders.  Breads ended the race in 1st place, Miller in 2nd place, #21 Mike Neubauer in 3rd place, McQuiston in 4th place, and #21m Mitchell Fralick in 5th place.

        The Street Stocks were next on the track to race 25 laps. #99 Dennis Kszos led the eight cars around the track, followed by #55 Ken Moore Jr. During Lap 4, #1 Jeff Campbell took over the second position after passing Moore Jr. #83 Russ Conti stayed even with Moore Jr. for over five laps and was able to pass him during Lap 9. The first caution flag was thrown when #19 Kaity Kicinski spun out in Lap 11. #08 Earl Goldy slipped into fourth position during Lap 13. During the last lap both Kszos and Campbell were neck-and-neck, but Kszos finished in 1st place, Campbell in 2nd, Conti in 3rd, Goldy in 4th, and rounding out the top 5 was Moore Jr.

        The next race was the Career Concepts Legends Feature. #25 Steve Sunday started the race off in first position, but fell to third position during Lap 6. #8 Justin Hines moved to first position during Lap 7, and #21 Patrick Lyden moved to second position. These three leaders stayed in the same position for all 25 laps. Hines finished in 1st place, Lyden in 2nd, Sunday in 3rd, and #39 Jeremy Haudricourt and #38 Dan Snyder in 4th and 5th places.

        The Dodge Modifieds entered the track next. #1 Terry Akerly took an early lead, followed by #13 Nate Carlson and #22 Ken Moore battling for second position. #32 Eric McCray moved into second position during Lap 11 with Carlson close behind. However, during Lap 13, Carlson spun out and caused two other cars to spin out as well. McCray took the lead during Lap 17 and #14 Carter Mook moved into third position during Lap 18. #77 Dave McAvoy spun out during Lap 20 causing the second caution flag of the race to be thrown. Akerly held off his opponents for the remainder of the race, finishing in 1st place, with Mook finishing in 2nd place, #28 Dale Murdock in 3rd place, McCray in 4th place, and #24 Randy Culver in 5th place.

        The last race of the night was the Plyler Overhead Door Late Models feature, which had 27 cars racing 150 laps in the Lake Erie 150. #55 Matt Barndt started the race off in first position and #9 Will Thomas in second position. The first caution flag of the race was thrown when #86 John Gallagher spun out during Lap 11. #65 George Skora III moved into second position during Lap 21 and #04 Bret Guzik moved into third position. Skora III finally made his move during Lap 28 and took over the first position. Debris and oil on the track caused another caution flag to be thrown during Lap 34. The cars had only driven a few laps until a caution flag was thrown after #81 Jeremy Holbrook spun out. For over forty laps, Skora III and Thomas moved in and out of first position. #24 Dave Rigan moved into third position during Lap 69, right in front of Barndt and #21 Rick Miller. A mandatory pit stop took place during Lap 78. #47 Scott Wylie Jr. spun out during Lap 90 causing a caution flag to be thrown. Thomas finally took over the first position during Lap 126, passing Skora III. Rigan spun out during Lap 133 and was forced to move into last position. Thomas held the lead for the rest of the race, followed by Skora III, Miller, Guzik, and #56 Rich Skora.
