Lancaster, New York – With Mother Nature raining on DTRP’s parade last week, double 50 lap Modified features and a full card of racing were scheduled for this week’s Saturday night show. The Modified features book-ended the show and Erick Rudolph took home the first win while Chuck Hossfeld held off a hard charging Sege Fidanza to win the second. Matt Druar continued his 4 Cylinder winning streak, Andy Jankowiak captured his first DTRP SST Sportsman feature win, and John Hewson won the Street Stock feature. The first event of the night was the continuation of the 50 lap Modified feature from May 30th. Tom McGrath led the field to the green flag and the field settled in single file behind him. Erick Rudolph slotted into second, followed by Brett Scherrer, Chuck Hossfeld, and Jimmy Zacharias. The car on the move however was Sege Fidanza, who started tail. Just seven laps into the feature Fidanza has moved up to fifth and by lap 13 passed Hossfeld for third. McGrath held his lead but Rudolph was reeling him in with each lap. A double file restart for Hossfeld spinning in turn two bunched up the field and evened out the playing field at the front of the pack. On lap 31 Rudolph powered by McGrath on the high side and took the lead. By lap 36 Fidanza was up to second after passing the ailing racecar of McGrath. With ten laps to go the top four front runners of Rudolph, Fidanza, Billy Putney, and Hossfeld were nose to tail, each looking over the car in front of them for a way around. However no late race passing would take place and Rudolph took his first DTRP Modified checkered flag of the season. The 4 Cylinders were up next for their feature event. Matt Druar, who came into the race unbeaten, started from the tenth starting spot and methodically moved his way up to the lead. Two yellow flags during the first two laps jumbled the running order and when the racing finally got going Charles Buchanan was in the lead with Druar right on his bumper. On lap seven Druar made his move on Buchanan and took the lead on the low side. Durar cruised home to his third consecutive win in the 4 Cylinder division. The SST Sportsman lined up next for their 35 lap feature and put on one of the best shows of the night. Nineteen cars took the green flag, with Bobby Holmes leading the way. Holmes had a good hold on the lead until his car bobbled and Hoddick pounced on the situation, taking the lead on lap six. However a yellow flag on lap seven doubled up the field and put Holmes to Hoddick’s outside. Holmes took advantage of the second chance at the lead and took possession of the top spot. “Yellow Fever” took ahold of the SST field for the first 15 laps at the feature but by the halfway point of the race the drivers were in their top form. At halfway Holmes led and was followed by Andy Jankowiak, Hoddick, Billy Burd, and Jonathon Price. The car on the move through the field was Burd, who had originally started ninth and by lap 22 had moved into third place. Up front Jankowiak was applying heavy pressure to Holmes for the lead and on lap 25 passed him for the lead. With Holmes loosing the handle on his car, this allowed Burd to pass into second and get his chance at leader Jankowiak. Burd and Jankowiak put on an amazing show of side by side racing for lap after lap for the lead. Jankowiak held the low line while Burd went high and tried to pass. As the cars came out of turn 4 on the last lap, a lap car allowed Burd to sneak a nose under Jankowiak on the low side but Jankowiak held on and captured his first DTRP SST Sportsman feature win. It was “clean and green” for the Street Stocks as they raced green to checkered flag with no cautions, but with plenty of action. Dave Frieder brought the field to the green flag and immediately took control of the lead. The top four of Frieder, Mike Nash, Mike Maggiore, and John Hewson ran nose to tail. Hewson methodically picked off the cars in front of him and was running in second by lap ten. Frieder had managed to build a bit of breathing room on the rest of the pack as they raced for position. However, disaster struck for Frieder on lap 11 as his car broke, handing the lead over to Hewson. At the halfway point Hewson had a sizable lead on Nash, last weeks feature winner Tim Garlock, Cory Gallagher, and Matt Jurek. Garlock was a man on a mission though and had raced into the second spot by lap 15. With just ten to go, Garlock started off for the leader. With just three laps to go Garlock had made it to the bumper of Hewson and began challenging for the lead. Hewson managed to hold off the hard charging Garlock to take his first feature win of the season. The last event of the night was the second Modified feature. Hossfeld redrew the pole position and was followed to the green flag by Jimmy Zacharias, Sege Fidanza, Brett Scherrer, and Tom McGrath. Hossfeld slotted in the lead and immediately had Fidanza on his bumper looking for the lead. Fidanza himself however had to deal with a challenge from Zacharias for second which allowed Hossfeld to gain a bit of space between himself and the rest of the competitors. There was slicing and dicing for position as Rudolph, who had started seventh, moved up to third by lap 16 and began giving Fidanza a run for his money. Rudolph drove his favored high side while Sege drove the bottom line, each battling hard for the second running spot. At the halfway point of the feature Hossfeld still held the lead while Fidanza and Rudolph duked it out for second. The top three ran so close together it was anyone’s chance at the lead at any given time. As the laps ticked off the top three continued to race their hardest with Fidanza looking over Hossfeld for the lead and Rudolph all over Fidanza for second. At the end though each held their position with Hossfeld taking the win, Fidanza finishing second, and Rudolph capturing third. Next week, June 13th, is Kids Day at Dunn Tire Raceway Park. Grandstand Admission for kids 8-14 years old is just $1 while kids under 8 will receive free grandstand admission. Plenty of activities are planned for the night including Kids Box Car Races, Kiddie Race Car Rides, Coloring Contest, Face Painting, Driver Autograph Sessions, Kids Club, Big Wheel races and more! On the racing card are the TQ Midget in their first 2009 appearance at DTRP, the 4 Cylinders, Street Stocks, SST Sportsman, and Modifieds.
