| Although
things got off to a late start, fans and drivers were treated
to arguably the best racing surface this season at AIR. Justin
Carlson of Sherman, NY took his first ever AIR E-mod
win in only his second ever start at the Delevan oval. Point
leaders Andy Michael and John Lacki got repeat wins
in the Street Stocks and Late Models, respectively.
Greg Haynoski got his first ever win in the 4 Cylinder division,
while Curt Pastorius finally got his long-awaited win in the
Pure Stocks. In the Street Stock feature, it took high point man Andy Michael (17x) less than three laps to take the lead from his 4th starting position. From there, he survived numerous restarts, never to be challenged for the top spot. Tim Bruce (75) ran second for much of the race before spinning just past half way. After dropping to 6th early on, Joe Chamberlain (46) began moving back towards the front of the field near the half way mark, making it to second by lap 15. However, he would pull off with just one lap remaining. Paul Davies (17) would battle from the 11th starting position to take 3rd by race end behind Joe Layfield (121). The E-mod feature would be paced by Justin Carlson (16) and John Woodward (18). Carlson took advantage of his outside starting spot to jump to the lead. Meanwhile, fourth starting Chad Silleman (47) wasted no time in charging to the front. He got past Woodward on lap 2 and proceeded to challenge Carlson for the lead by lap 4. Tim Gillespie (15) hit the turn 1 wall to bring out the first caution of the race at lap 9. On the restart, Silleman jumped to the lead, but it was short lived as Carlson would battle back on lap 10 to regain the top spot. Last weeks winner Darren Tarabori (6) was on the move near half way, running the high line of the speedway to take 4th by lap 11. He would eventually battle past Nathan Hill (38) to take 3rd place on lap 18. Silleman was not able to run down Justin Carlson who took the win in only his second-ever start at AIR. It was a John Lacki (7) and John Haggerty (49) front-row for the Emerling Resale Center FASTRAK Late Model feature. Haggerty would jump to the early lead, but Lacki battled back quickly to take the lead on lap 2. From there, Lacki set sail on the field, riding the fast high line around the speedway. Bob Kish (5) and Jim Frank (14*) were having a rough battle early on, however it ended when Frank was turned into the infield on lap 5, dropping him to 6th. Although he tried to get back up to where he was, Tim Schram (1s) was too tough to get by, leaving Frank to finish where he had dropped to. Lacki kept on flying, eventually catching the tail-end of the field before crossing under the checkered flag first. The win was John Lackis 6th of the season, the most of any driver. As always, the 4 Cylinder feature saw a lot of 3-wide racing. Richard Kline (23) would go to the early lead, with Greg Haynoski (30) and Levi Watson (26) in tow. Haynoski would get by around the high side for the lead on lap two. Nick Snayczuk (12) would get past Watson on lap 4 after a close battle, only to lose it back to Watson on lap 6. Watsons pass on Snayczuk would give him the chance to battle with Haynoski for the lead. The two fought it out from lap 8 to the finish, with Watson trying every line he could find and then some to get past Haynoski. In the end, the door-to-door, wheel-to-wheel battle was won by Greg Haynoski, his first ever. Zach Hamer (7) would jump to the lead at the start of the Pure Stock feature, however Curt Pastorius (42) would take it away just two laps later. By lap 5, Pastorius had checked out on the field. Meanwhile, usual front-runner John Ellwood (27) was back battling for 4th with George Conkey (11x). The two beat and banged cars until finally the 11x slowed, dropping to a finish of 6th, with Ellwood taking 4th. Curt Pastorius would go on to claim his long-awaited first victory of the season followed by Zach Hamer and Josh Keith (22k).
