Delevan,
NY- On a night where the weather could best be described as iffy,
Arcade International Raceway was able to complete its entire show on yet
again another fast, tacky racing surface. The show was moved along
quickly just in case, with fans being treated to a full five division
racing program which wrapped up in just over two hours.
Tom
Kemp won the FASTRAK Late Model feature, while E-mod point leader John
Woodward Jr. won his first feature of the season in the E-mods. Dan
Giboo, Levi Watson, and John Ellwood claimed victories in the Street
Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Pure Stocks.
Kevin Dzuroff (07x) and
Dan Giboo (8) would lead the Street Stock feature lineup to the green flag
for their twenty lap main event. Giboo would jump straight to the
lead. Point leader Andy Michael (17x) however, had a bit of work to
do starting tenth. He wasted no time in trying to make his way to
the front, advancing four positions to take 6th by lap three and 5th by
lap four. Back at the front, Dan Giboo gained a considerable lead
and kept up a blistering pace, lapping all the way up to 9th place by lap
14. By lap 17, Andy Michael had made his way into second and could
begin to see the leader. He was given a shot at taking the win when
the only caution of the race flew that same lap. However, Giboo was
too strong for Michael and held him off for the win in his unique Camaro-styled
Street Stock.
In the E-mod feature,
current high point man John Woodward Jr. (18) of Franklinville would take
advantage of his pole starting position to jump to the lead right from the
start. The man chasing him in points, Richard Michael Jr. (17x),
would have to come from the fifth starting position this night. By
lap two, he was in 3rd position, and on lap four he would grab second away
from Chad Silleman (47). Following Michael to the front was Vic Vena
(01), who made his first AIR start since May 15. With the race
staying clean and green, out front Woodward was able to put a good
distance between himself and second. Meanwhile, Jason Genco (29J)
and Chad Silleman had themselves a side-by-side battle for 4th which
lasted from lap 11 to lap 16 when Genco used a lapped car to finally clear
Silleman. For the win, nobody could catch John Woodward; despite
being the point leader the win was Woodwards first of the season.
In the previous weeks
FASTRAK Late Model action, Tom Kemp (28K) showed signs that his car was
getting close to being a contender again. He was able to back his
performance up on the 21st by taking the win in dominating fashion over
the rest of the field. For the first five laps of the main, with
Kemp out front the fight for 2nd through 4th saw Bob Kish (5), John Lacki
(7), Jim Frank (14*), and John Haggerty (49) all side-by-side and racing
hard. By lap five the four had sorted it out to two separate battles
with Lacki going to work on Kish and Haggerty trying to get by Jim Frank.
While that pack stayed close for most of the race, Tom Kemp had
built up a straightaway lead by lap 13 and went on to win his second AIR
Emerling Resale Center FASTRAK Late Model feature of the season.
The Mini Stock feature saw
Bruno Mowery (67) as the early race leader followed by poincontenders Nick
Snayczuk (12), Brad Ullman (46x) and Levi Watson (26). Mowery would
hold on to the lead until lap five when his car seemed to jump into the
turn two wall, slowing him to 4th. Levi Watson meanwhile had found
his groove on the top side of the speedway and would take the lead. Snayczuk
would have problems throughout the race, slowing briefly at laps 11, 13,
and 15 leaving him with a disappointing 6th place finish after running 2nd
for much of the race. Nobody could catch Levi Watson for the win,
his fifth of the season.
John Ellwood (27) would go
straight to the lead from his pole starting position in the Pure Stock
feature followed by Zach Hamer (7), Fred Ely (00), and Curt Pastorius
(42). Ely would battle with Hamer from lap four until the finish,
yet was unable to take the runner-up spot. Dave Derock (22), in his
first AIR start since July 5th, would make a wild move to the high side of
Curt Pastorius as they were coming to the white flag. Derock even
scraped the front stretch wall, but was still able to get by to take 4th
in the final circuit. Ellwood went on unchallenged at the front for
his seventh win of the season.
