Delevan, NY: Arcade International
Raceway closed out its 2009 season with a Mini Stock and Street Stock
special show. Bruno Mowery of Olean, NY took the Mini Stock
feature which was worth $500 for winning while Adam Ashcroft of
Freedom, NY drove to the $1,500 first place prize in the Street Stock
main event. Heat finishes set the feature starting fields with a heads
up start.
Bruno Mowery took the lead at the start
of Mini Stock feature from his outside pole starting spot over fourth
place starter and Genesee Speedway champion Dan Norton.
Mowery managed to keep ahead of him until lap ten when Norton
officially led that lap at the line. Mowery regained the lead the next
lap as Brad Ullman and Steve Mowery stayed close with them
in the third and fourth place positions. Bruno hung on for the win as
Ullman was able to slip under Norton late in the feature for the
second place finish. Steve Mowery and Jim Galloway made up the top
five finishers.
Steve Mowery blasted off from his pole
starting spot for the lead with Arcade and Little Valley champion Andy
Michael in hot pursuit after starting fourth. Mini Stock feature
winner Bruno Mowery lost a wheel on lap two for the race's first
caution and retired from the event. Michael was testing Mowery for the
lead, but Mowery retained the front spot. Michael's chase ended on lap
eleven with a flat tire for another caution, and he lost a lap.
Adam Ashcroft, after steadily moving forward from his twentieth
starting spot, moved into the second spot as Genesee Speedway champion
Josh Smallidge ran third for the lap thirteen restart. Dundee, NY's
Bob Buono moved under Smallidge for the third spot as one more lap was
completed as Adam Sixt was running fifth after starting
sixteenth. Sixt moved around Smallidge for the fourth spot just
before the lap twenty point with many-time Fulton and Utica-Rome
champion Dave Mannise now holding down fifth place. Sixt dropped to
the infield with a problem on lap twenty two as Joe Chamberlain came
to a stop before the turn three exit for another caution. The restart
order was Mowery, Ashcroft, Buono, Mannise, John Gagner and Smallidge
in the top six spots. Ashcroft was able to move around Mowery for the
lead on the restart as the halfway point was reached and the top five
drivers pulled away from the rest of the field. Buono took second from
Mowery during the chase. Caution waved again for debris in turn three
on lap thirty one as Gagner made a pit stop. Mowery experienced a flat
tire while running third on lap thirty two and had to stop for a new
one. Ashcroft led Buono, Mannise and Damon Lewis at this point. Lewis
brought out a caution on lap thirty eight when his ride came to a stop
on the backstretch. Ashcroft again was keeping a comfortable edge over
Buono on the restart with Mannise holding down third place. Ashcroft
had the car the beat and took the checkers first over Buono. John
Gagner made a late race charge to grab third place from Mannise while
early leader Steve Mowery rounded out the top five after his run from
the back of the pack. Buono was disqualified in post-race tech though.
The revised top five finish showed Ashcroft, Gagner, Mannise, Mowery
and Leon Szweda, III.
